About the Author

Lawrence Deary is an independent children’s picture book author with a passion for sparking curiosity and wonder in young readers. His debut picture book, “The Boy Who Talked to the Moon,” was born from a love of reading stories to his grandchildren that honor their imagination and invite them to see the world as a magical, endlessly fascinating place.

He writes children’s books for young readers and their parents and grandparents, teachers, and librarians who believe that a great bedtime story can open a child’s mind to the wonders of the night sky, the beauty of nature, and the power of asking questions.

Why I Wrote The Boy Who Talked to the Moon

My grandson was fascinated by a book about the night sky and the moon and kept saying “look at this grandpa.” It gave me the idea to write a story that would capture that same wonder and imagination and be a perfect bedtime story for children.

Lawrence is retired from a career in human resources administration and consulting, and is a US army veteran. In college he was a journalism major prior to being attracted to human resources. He resides in Michigan. He holds degrees from Wayne State University and Central Michigan University.

He hopes that every child who reads his book will look up at the moon a little differently, and will be inspired to be forever curious.
